Results from 8.0 Senior Mixed Nationals in Chattanooga, TN March 23, 2013
The Senior Team finished with a 2-1 record, second in their flight behind 3-0 Northern California who advance to the semi-finals. We are very proud of the Midwest Champions for their efforts at Nationals! They traveled far, played in difficult weather conditions and gave it their all. It was a remarkable season!
Midwest Champions bound for Nationals! 8.0 Senior Mixed Team wins Sectionals! March 10, 2013
Congratulations to the 8.0 Senior Mixed Team after a big win at Sectionals in Fort Wayne! Our newly crowned Midwest Champions will head to Nationals! After starting Saturday with a loss to Illinois (1-2), then ending with a win over Indiana (2-1), Sunday would become a day of tough matches and a close call to the finish. They defeated both Wisconsin and Ohio by a score of 2-1. Our Senior Team would then have to wait as their nearest competition, Ohio, played the final match of the weekend. Ohio’s narrow victory over Indiana put them in a tie with the Tennis House as both teams finished the weekend with a 3-1 Team win/loss record and a 7-5 Individual win/loss record. It came down to count of Games Lost, and the Tennis House captured the Midwest Championship by 10 games! They advance to the 2012 Senior Mixed Invitational taking place March 22-24, 2013 in Chattanooga, TN. Way to go! Michigan State Champions! March 2, 2013
The Tennis House put up a fight in their first State Championship match against Northern Michigan, but came up short losing 2-1. Kim Miller and Jim Charron won 6-1, 6-2. Doug Shymko and Connie Kleeves lost 1-6, 7-6 (7-10), and Karen Basha and Jeff Blackman lost 5-7, 7-5 (4-10). Very tough, closely fought matches put them in a must-win situation for their final match against Western Michigan. To claim the State title and advance to Sectionals in Fort Wayne, they would have to win their battle with Western Michigan 3-0. We are happy to say they did just that, and our club has a new Michigan State Champion! Barb Lynch and Jim Charron won in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. Dan Johnson/Karen Basha and Doug Shymko/Connie Kleeves both won in super tie-breakers… 7-6, 5-7, 1-0 and 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 respectively!
SE Michigan District Champions!
The 8.0 Senior Mixed Team heads to the USTA Michigan Senior Mixed 8.0 State Championship in Grandville, MI on March 2, 2013. The SE Michigan Champions began their 2012 league on September 29, 2012 and finished on December 29, 2012 with an impressive 7-1 win/loss record. On Saturday, March they will face off against the Western Michigan Champs from Rockford and the Northern Michigan Champs from Alpena. Team players are: Karen Basha, Jim Charron, Barb Lynch, Trish Gogas, Jeff Blackman, David Joy, Dan Johnson, Glenn Johnson (captain), Doug Shymko, Lori Shymko, Betty Latosinsky, Connie Kleeves, and Kim Miller.
